BMW postpones opening of Hungarian factory
BMW will postpone its investment as it tries to save money to counter the decline in demand for cars caused by the pandemic. Thus, the German automaker BMW will postpone the opening of its unit in Debrecen, Eastern Hungary, for a year due to the impact of the pandemic, said President Oliver Zipse.
Construction of the 1 billion Euro plant was due to start this spring. The plant will employ about 1,000 people and have a production capacity of about 150,000 vehicles per year. At present, the company had serious intentions. But due to the fact that there is no exact date for the end of the pandemic, we have to take such desperate actions.
This plant must produce both models with internal combustion engines and electric models. Currently, all automakers are experiencing enormous problems. This crisis will lead to serious changes not only in the automotive industry. Therefore, the company should take measures to reduce costs. Otherwise, the crash can not be avoided.
